Sitting here eating a bacon and tomato sandwich, I was thinking about the recent concert with The New Dove Brothers and The Joymasters at Shiloh Hills Baptist Church in Kennesaw, GA, just a few days ago. So I thought I would just tell you about it!
Joymasters Band
While I was introducing the pastor Vic Bledsoe, I told him that tonight we were going to change the name of the Church and we would call it Shiloh Hills Pentecostal Baptist Church! With The New Dove Brothers making their first appearance in Georgia, along The Joymasters who sing with a five piece band, no one knows what to expect. It’s no need to plan a program, just introduce them and, as we say in the south, ‘Let her fly.’
Joymasters
The Joymasters kicked off the concert singing off numerous old favorite songs. Then the New Dove Brothers; McCray Dove, Tony Peace and Wesley Smith, took the stage. McCray sang the song he wrote that became number one, entitled ‘Hold On.’ Wesley was featured on ‘Hide Thou Me’ and then it was Tony’s turn. Well Tony had to give up his baritone position and sing bass on ‘Lonesome Road,’ after which he did a recitation from the twenty-third Psalm.
I thought I might need an ambulance standing by when McCray sang the most requested song: ‘Didn’t It Rain!’ I think the folks wanted to see if he still had it. I thought he might be having heart failure after singing it the second time. McCray, who sang ten years with The Dixie Melody Boys, is getting – like me – a little older. He has written and recorded numerous songs.
The New Dove Brothers
There was a lot of unexpected surprises during the second half. The Joymasters sang their version of a Southern Gospel classic ‘My Name Is Lazarus.’ It took them about two and half minutes to sing the entire song. Eric McVey, bass for The Joymasters, was called up to help The New Dove Brothers on ‘He’s My Personal Savior.’ They were singing ‘That’s Enough,’ when Tony stopped them and called his sister Melanie Hall to take over Wesley’s part. Finally Melanie said, ‘that’s enough!’ But it wasn’t. McCray called Tony’s mom Inez to the stage to play piano for Tony and Melanie to sing together. Then Ms Inez broke down on the piano with ‘Last Date’ and ‘Alabama Jubilee’.
Both groups gathered on stage for the closing singing a couple of songs, one of which was ‘Troubles and Trials’. McCray had a few closing words and invitation and they closed with ‘In The Sweet Bye and Bye’.
What a terrific evening!

Response has been so good for the Supporter VIP passes for the concerts next year I may add the fifth row to accommodate every one.These are reserved by rows with seven people on the row on the first five center rows. They are $100 each for all four concerts which includes Booth Brothers, Triumphant Quartet, Soul’d Out Quartet, Heritage of Gold Tour, Jim Brady, Karen Peck & New River.
